PM Abiy Lauds Rapid Progress at Ethiopia's Space, Geospatial Institute

Ethiopia's Space Science and Geospatial Institute, though recently established, is already making significant strides, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) announced today.

The Prime Minister highlighted the institute's swift development of an information system spanning from subterranean depths to outer space. This system, he noted, is critical for identifying groundwater resources and land assets, citing its role in tracking the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam's water filling from its inception.

Beyond resource mapping, the Ethiopia's Space Science and Geospatial Institute is playing a pivotal role in land management. Dr. Abiy emphasized the institute's work in meticulously identifying every land plot, clarifying ownership, tracking activities, and enhancing transparency in land transactions.

He further praised the institute for innovating beyond traditional printed maps, embracing digital mapping and mobile applications. "These initiatives demonstrate the incredibly promising work being undertaken by the institute," Dr. Abiy concluded.
