Ethiopian health authorities are taking swift action following confirmed M-Pox cases within the country, with the Ministry of Health today emphasizing that the overall threat level to the nation remains low. The announcement aims to reassure the public even as global concern over the virus persists.
So far, three individuals from a single family residing in the Moyale town administration of the Oromia region have been diagnosed with the disease.
In response, the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Ethiopian Public Health Institute and regional health bureaus, has initiated surveillance and response activities.
Given that the disease is transmitted through contact and close respiratory proximity, individuals who have had close contact with infected persons in the affected area are currently undergoing testing. Furthermore, surveillance measures are being implemented for both land and air travel to help control the spread of the disease.
The Health Minister, Dr. Mekdes Daba noted that while M-Pox cases have increased by 78 percent globally in the past five months, comprehensive national preparedness and response efforts are being coordinated effectively within Ethiopia.
The public is urged to seek immediate medical attention at a health facility if they experience symptoms such as rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes, general swelling, muscle pain, or back pain.
