Ethiopia Inaugurates $3.5 Million World Bank-Funded Smart Communication Centers

Smart communication centers, developed with $3.5 million in support from the World Bank, have been virtually inaugurated in 24 institutions spanning federal, regional, and city administrations across Ethiopia.

This significant project was brought to fruition with a $3.5 million grant from the World Bank, as announced by the Ministry of Innovation and Technology. The centers have been strategically implemented in **10 federal institutions, 12 regional presidential offices, and two city administration mayoral offices, collectively empowering 24 key government bodies.

Dr. Negeri Lencho, Chairperson of the Human Resources, Employment, and Technology Affairs Standing Committee of the House of Peoples' Representatives, emphasized the project's transformative potential. He highlighted its ability to facilitate seamless discussions and decision-making on national issues, effectively transcending geographical barriers. Dr. Negeri also underscored technology's vital role in fostering inclusive development and affirmed the Standing Committee's unwavering commitment to initiatives that directly benefit the public.

Speaking virtually from the Benishangul-Gumuz Region during the inauguration, Dr. Belete Molla, Minister of Innovation and Technology, underscored the project's alignment with Digital Ethiopia 2025. He noted that the expansion of infrastructure is a cornerstone of this national digital transformation strategy, and the smart communication project is a crucial component. Dr. Belete further explained that these centers will streamline communication, saving valuable time and resources. The Minister also reiterated the ongoing commitment to future project implementations to fully realize the ambitious goals of Digital Ethiopia.
