Federal Police Reform Builds a Strong, Capable Institution to Deliver on National Mandates – Commissioner General Demelash Gebremichael

Ethiopia’s Federal Police has transformed into a strong and capable institution that can effectively carry out national missions, thanks to ongoing reforms over the past seven years, said Commissioner General Demelash Gebremichael.

Speaking at the grand closing ceremony of the 116th Ethiopian Police Day at Meskel Square—an event attended by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed and various dignitaries—Commissioner General Demelash praised the Federal Police for its significant reform achievements in both human resources and technology.

He emphasized that the institution has earned national recognition for its dedicated service, including its 24-hour protection of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), showcasing its capacity to shoulder critical national responsibilities.

The Commissioner also highlighted the enhanced capabilities of the Federal Police in criminal investigation and forensic analysis, noting that the institution is now offering services to neighboring countries, thereby strengthening regional cooperation.

Moreover, the Federal Police has developed a world-class policing application, winning international accolades for its innovation.

Commissioner Demelash stressed that the Federal Police continues to play an indispensable role in Ethiopia’s dual-track development goals—ensuring peace and stability while supporting progress. He reiterated that the institution has matured into a resilient force capable of successfully executing any national mandate with professionalism and efficiency.

He also extended his gratitude to the Ethiopian people for their ongoing support and cooperation with the Federal Police.
