Ethiopian Labor Market Information System Project Office Develops Over 23 Job Databases

The Ethiopian Labor Market Information System Project Office has successfully developed more than 23 job databases, according to Birhanu Aleka, the office's coordinator.

The project, operating under the Ministry of Labor and Skills, is actively identifying job opportunities across Ethiopia. Birhanu explained that the primary goal in creating these databases is to simplify the process for individuals seeking employment to find suitable work.

He further elaborated that the project plays a crucial role in understanding Ethiopia's labor landscape by identifying the existing workforce, the required human resources, and the available job opportunities. This identification process is essential for effectively matching job openings with the right candidates.

Highlighting the diverse nature of available opportunities, Birhanu mentioned the creation of a job listing specifically for those seeking conventional employment, designed to help them find work quickly. Additionally, he stated that a system is being implemented to support individuals who prefer working from home, providing them with access to training and financial assistance to facilitate their entry into the workforce.

Birhanu noted the traditionally lengthy and cumbersome process involved in finding job advertisements and navigating recruitment for domestic employment. He affirmed that the project is expected to significantly reduce this time-consuming process.

For citizens interested in remote work with international companies, he stated that efforts are underway to connect them with global firms. He reported significant success in this area over the past seven months since the system's launch, with over 94,000 such job opportunities created, potentially offering earnings of up to 2,000 US dollars.

Furthermore, the office is facilitating overseas employment for citizens by compiling their complete information and connecting them with foreign employers. This initiative, he added, has been instrumental in ensuring the dignity and protection of citizens working abroad.
