"Ethiopia's achievement in the agricultural sector is a good practice for other African countries," stated African Union Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy & Sustainable Environment, Commissioner Moses Vilakati.
He made the comment after meeting with Ethiopia's Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Girma Amente, yesterday to discuss the nation's progress in the vital sector.
During the discussion, the minister mentioned that Ethiopia is achieving tangible change in the agricultural sector and explained the successes registered in wheat development, the 'Yelemat Tirufat' initiative (Bounty of the Basket), and the Green Legacy initiative.
He further affirmed Ethiopia's commitment to sharing the best practices achieved in the agricultural sector with other African countries. The Ministry of Agriculture's information indicates that he also stated that Africa needs to ensure its food security and food sovereignty by utilizing its development potential in the agricultural sector.
On his part, Commissioner Moses Vilakati stated that the results Ethiopia is achieving in the agricultural sector are to be taken as a good practice for other African countries.
He expressed his desire to work in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia on areas including experience sharing, fertilizer, improved seed multiplication, agricultural digitalization, and soil mapping to ensure Africa's food security and food sovereignty
