The Amhara Region Agriculture Bureau announced that preparations are underway to plant seedlings on 207,000 hectares of damaged land during the upcoming rainy season as part of the Green Legacy program.
It was noted that of the over 1.4 billion seedlings planted in the region during last year's rainy season, 85 percent survived according to the first round count.
Asmlealem Mihret, Director of Natural Resource Development, Protection, and Utilization at the Agriculture Bureau, stated that efforts are being made to cover land damaged by man-made and natural problems with forest.
He explained that seedling preparation is ongoing and continues strongly through the efforts of the government, private sector, associations, and institutions.
According to ENA, the director further disclosed that the planned seedling planting is expected to increase the region's current forest coverage from 16.3 percent to 17.3 percent.
