Oromia's Urban Corridor Development Enhances Equitable Benefits

The urban development and housing bureau of the Oromia region announced that the ongoing urban corridor development in the region has created an opportunity for equitable development to reach citizens.

The deputy head of the bureau, Birhanu Bekele, stated that corridor development work is being carried out in 732 cities across the region.

He pointed out that the corridor development work aims to expand infrastructure in cities in an integrated manner and to prepare city plans in a modern and standardized way.

He also mentioned that it benefits the city residents by maintaining the beauty and cleanliness of the city.

He indicated that extensive discussions were held with the community before the corridor development works commenced in the cities, and as a result, significant successes have been achieved in the corridor development work.

He elaborated that the corridor development is being implemented in a manner that includes the integrated construction of pedestrian walkways, bicycle paths in convenient locations, parking spaces, flood drainage canals, green recreational areas, and water, electricity, and telecommunications infrastructure, particularly in urban areas.

He noted that the corridor development work is focused on expanding existing transportation options and added that numerous supportive activities are underway to enhance the beauty of the cities.

ENA cited Birhanu as saying 'above all, the corridor development work is helping cities become attractive for tourism and investment.'

In conclusion, he stated that the overall corridor development work being carried out in the region is creating an opportunity for equitable development that benefits all citizens.
