The Immigration and Citizenship Service has announced that it is modernizing its procedures using digital technology.
The Service's Director General, Selamawit Dawit, stated that by utilizing current technology, they are now capable of printing over 14,000 passports daily.
During an interview with ETV, the Director General also highlighted that emphasis is being placed on expanding accessibility by opening more branches: 4 in Addis Ababa and 10 in regional areas.
The Director General affirmed that the institution is fulfilling its mandate, granted by proclamation, to efficiently and securely print and issue passports through both expedited (urgent) and standard (regular) processing options.
She further explained that the new, modern passport is being provided to service users at a lower fee compared to those in other countries.
Furthermore, she indicated that there is a dedicated focus on developing a future system enabling clients to access services remotely (from wherever they are), eliminating the need to visit the institution in person.
