The Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE), Dr. Abiy Ahmed, has stated that the federal government will strengthen its support for the people of Tigray to achieve peace and stability and benefit from the changes happening in Ethiopia, just like their brothers.
The handover ceremony of the presidency of the Tigray region's interim administration took place yesterday.
During this ceremony, Lieutenant General Tadesse Werede took over as the president of the Tigray region's interim administration and signed the mission execution covenant document of the Tigray region's inclusive interim administration.
High-ranking government officials, including the Prime Minister of the FDRE, Dr. Abiy Ahmed, and representatives of the continental and international diplomatic community, were present at the ceremony.
During his speech at the occasion, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) stated that the federal government will provide continuous support for the people of Tigray to achieve peace and benefit from the changes happening in Ethiopia, just like their brothers.
In his speech, the Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to Getachew Reda for his contribution to ensuring the very pressing and necessary desire for peace in the Tigray region over the past 2 years.
"I would like to express my deep gratitude on behalf of the federal government and myself for his unwavering commitment to peace for the people of Tigray since the Pretoria Agreement," he said.
Lieutenant General Tadesse Werede expressed his hope to follow in the footsteps of Getachew Reda in consolidating peace in the region.
He mentioned that there was extensive discussion about who would continue the key unfinished tasks after Getachew's term ended.
The Prime Minister stated that they have considered the legal gaps that needed to be filled during this discussion.
He also stated that after addressing the things that needed to be adjusted, they officially conducted the handover ceremony yesterday in a new way and with a new culture.
