Addis Ababa Cabinet Approves Four Key Initiatives

In a pivotal 9th regular meeting of the 4th year, the Addis Ababa City Administration Cabinet convened today to deliberate and finalize decisions on four critical agendas aimed at enhancing the city’s educational landscape, food security, disaster preparedness, and socio-economic development.

First on the agenda was a groundbreaking proposal for the establishment of a university village stretching from Arat Kilo to Shiro Meda.

This initiative, developed in collaboration with the Planning and Development Bureau and the Ministry of Education, aims to transform the area into a hub for educational excellence, research, and cultural enrichment.

The university village is envisioned to foster innovation and academic growth, positioning Addis Ababa as a centre of knowledge in the region.

The Cabinet also addressed pressing issues surrounding food security by discussing and approving the establishment of the Food System and Nutrition Council.

This council is expected to spearhead initiatives that enhance nutritional standards and promote sustainable food systems across the city, ensuring that residents have access to healthy and affordable food options.

In a proactive measure to bolster the city’s resilience against natural disasters, the Cabinet reviewed and approved a draft regulation for the creation of the Disaster Risk Management Council and the Disaster Preparedness Fund.

This initiative underscores the administration's commitment to safeguarding citizens through effective disaster response strategies and resource allocation.

Lastly, the Cabinet evaluated socio-economically beneficial projects submitted by the Land Development and Administration Bureau.

Decisions made during this discussion focused on land allocation issues that will support community development and economic growth, ensuring that projects align with the city’s broader strategic goals.

These decisions reflect Addis Ababa's ongoing commitment to improving urban living conditions and enhancing the quality of life for its residents through thoughtful planning and collaborative governance. The Cabinet's actions today set a strong foundation for future developments in education, nutrition, disaster management, and socio-economic advancement, according to the Mayor’s Office.
