Tigray New Interim Administration President Promises Development, Change for Tigray

Lieutenant General Tadese Worede, the newly appointed president of the Tigray Region Interim Administration, has stated that activities fulfilling the development and change aspirations of the Tigray people will be implemented in the coming period.

The handover ceremony for the President of the Tigray Region Interim Administration took place today.

During the ceremony, Lieutenant General Tadese Worede assumed the presidency of the Tigray Region Interim Administration and signed the mission implementation pledge of the Tigray Region Inclusive Interim Administration.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.), along with high-ranking government officials and representatives from the continental and international diplomatic community, attended the ceremony.

On the occasion, Lieutenant General Tadese stated that there are numerous tasks that were not accomplished in the past two years and need to be addressed in the future.

He pointed out that there are security, political, and economic challenges that exist beyond just the implementation of the Pretoria agreement.

Acknowledging that these challenges are not easy, he affirmed his commitment to focus on bringing about change in this regard.

He indicated that activities that will fulfill the development demands and the desire for change of the Tigray people will be carried out in the coming times.

He also stated that he will work towards the full implementation of the Pretoria agreement and that efforts will be made to alleviate existing tensions.

He emphasized his dedication to working towards achieving the people's desire for change.

The former president of the Tigray Region Interim Administration, Getachew Reda, stated that the interim administration has accomplished significant work over the past two years.

He cited examples such as restoring services, providing humanitarian support, and returning displaced persons but acknowledged that these efforts were not sufficient.

He described the federal government's decision to extend the term of the interim administration for an additional year as a positive step.

He emphasized the importance of focusing on working diligently to achieve the aspirations of the Tigray people for peace and change and to achieve better outcomes.

ENA reported that he mentioned internal political disputes played a significant role in hindering the full implementation of the Pretoria agreement.

Getachew stated that continuing with internal disagreements is not sustainable and emphasized the need to work hard to solidify the achieved peace, recognizing that there are ongoing efforts to undermine it.

He stated that the desire for peace and change among the people of Tigray is now irreversible.

He indicated that considering these factors, the focus should be on completing the remaining tasks.
