The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) Government has called on communication professionals nationwide to embrace their vital roles in fostering national unity.
This directive comes as part of an initiative led by the Government Communication Service, which is currently conducting capacity-building training for leaders and senior professionals in city and regional government communication structures.
The training, themed "Purpose-Based Communication for Ethiopia," aims to equip these professionals with the necessary skills to effectively contribute to the nation's development.
At the forefront of this initiative, Bikila Hurissa (PhD), Head of the Democracy System Building Coordination Center and International Relations at the Prime Minister’s Office delivered a compelling presentation titled “Building a Governance Dialogue and the Role of Communicators.” He emphasized the need for collaboration among communication professionals at both regional and federal levels.
"All communicators must work in tandem with their counterparts to ensure a cohesive approach to national dialogue," Bikila stated, underscoring the importance of synergy in communication efforts.
Bikila further elaborated on the significant role communication experts play in cultivating a sense of national unity.
By forging connections among diverse communities and promoting shared values, these professionals can help bridge divides and enhance solidarity across Ethiopia.
"Communication is not merely about conveying messages; it is about building relationships and fostering understanding among our people," he asserted.
Echoing this sentiment, Kebede Desisa, State Minister of Government Communication Services (GCS), reinforced the necessity for a purposeful communication framework focused on Ethiopia's developmental goals.
Furthering the matter, State Minister Kebede urged communication structures to effectively promote and implement government policies, strategies, and initiatives through various media channels. "Our communication efforts must align with our national interests and respond to the dynamic global landscape," Kebede emphasized.
The training aims to establish a robust communication system that prioritizes national interests while addressing contemporary challenges such as misinformation and hate speech. Participants being equipped with the necessary tools to navigate the complexities of today's information environment ought to work on ensuring that they can provide accurate and timely information to the public.
The FDRE Government's commitment, according to the GCS State Minister, to empowering these professionals reflects a strategic approach to enhancing national dialogue and fostering an inclusive environment where all voices are heard.
