Spain has reaffirmed its commitment to Ethiopia’s sustainable development through a long-term partnership focusing on health, rural development, and climate resilience.

Mario Fanjul Benítez, Head of Spanish Cooperation in Ethiopia, highlighted the significance of this partnership, emphasizing that Spain is working closely with the Ethiopian government and key stakeholders such as Ayuda en Acción to drive impactful initiatives.

“We are actively engaged with the Ministry of Agriculture to support public policies, including fish farming and risk management. Additionally, we are collaborating with the Ministry of Health to strengthen the country’s healthcare system through the SVEPF donor basket fund, while also working with university hospitals and the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs.”

The partnership extends across multiple sectors, bringing together government ministries, academia, civil society, and the private sector. According to Benítez, Spain is particularly focused on Ethiopia’s self-sufficiency in food production, supporting value chains, and fostering climate-resilient agricultural practices.

“Despite global challenges, Ethiopia has immense potential. With strong public policies and the dedication of local producers leading these processes, the country is on track to achieve significant progress. Development partners will continue to align with Ethiopia’s sustainable development goals,” he added.

As part of its efforts to support Ethiopia’s development, Spanish Ayuda en Acción Ethiopia has launched the INN-MORE Project Innovation in the Development of the Moringa Market System. This initiative aims to strengthen the technical and operational capacities of Moringa value chain actors, promoting resilience and economic growth in the Wolaita and Gamo zones of the South Ethiopia region.

As Ethiopia advances its national development agenda, Spain remains a steadfast partner, reinforcing bilateral ties and supporting initiatives that contribute to long-term economic and social growth.
