The Ethio-UK Investment Forum has taken place in London today, fostering discussions that have aimed to strengthen economic ties between Ethiopia and the United Kingdom. The event has been a joint initiative of the Ethiopian Embassy in the UK and the Institute of Directors (IoD) Africa Group.
The forum brought together prominent business leaders and stakeholders from both nations. Ambassador Mesganu Arga, Ethiopia's State Minister of Foreign Affairs, spearheaded the Ethiopian delegation and delivered a keynote address emphasizing Ethiopia's burgeoning and attractive business landscape. He encouraged UK companies to explore the significant potential the country offers.
Joining the forum virtually, Dr. Zeleke Temesgen, Commissioner of the Ethiopian Investment Commission, highlighted the ongoing legal and institutional reforms within Ethiopia. These reforms, he stated, have cultivated a more conducive environment for foreign investors.
Meleket Sahlu, Deputy CEO of Ethiopian Investment Holdings, further elaborated on the support mechanisms and partnership opportunities readily available to British businesses seeking to invest in Ethiopia.
Following the keynote speeches, an interactive discussion took place featuring senior Ethiopian officials and a representative from Kagool, a UK-based IT solutions company that recently expanded into the Ethiopian market. They shared valuable insights into Ethiopia's welcoming business environment, engaging directly with the audience.
In his closing remarks, Ambassador Biruk Mekonnen, Ethiopia’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, reiterated the key takeaways of the forum. He strongly urged UK businesses to capitalize on the diverse investment opportunities present in Ethiopia.
The IoD Africa Group, a division of the globally recognized Institute of Directors, played a crucial supporting role in the forum. With a vast network of over 20,000 company directors and business leaders, the IoD Africa Group actively facilitates connections between UK businesses and emerging markets across the African continent.
This investment forum marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to strengthen the economic partnership between Ethiopia and the UK, paving the way for future investments and collaborative ventures.
