Ethiopia to Actively Participate in BRICS, Focusing on Mutual Benefit

Ethiopia will actively participate in the BRICS framework, prioritizing mutual benefit with member states, according to a recent announcement.

Ethiopia's National BRICS High-Level Officials' Technical Committee held a meeting yesterday. The discussion, led by Ambassador Minilik Alemu, Senior Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, focused on key activities planned during Brazil's BRICS presidency.

Ambassador Lemlem Fisseha, Director General of International Organizations Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, presented a report on the successes of Ethiopia's BRICS participation in 2024 and outlined Ethiopia's planned activities within the BRICS framework for 2025.

Ambassador Lemlem stated that BRICS is a crucial platform for safeguarding Ethiopia's national interests and actively pursuing its foreign policy objectives. She highlighted Ethiopia's commitment to strong participation with BRICS member countries in agriculture, infrastructure, health, education, trade, and investment, ensuring mutual benefit.

Representatives from 21 government institutions provided input on Ethiopia's planned goals for 2025 during Brazil's BRICS presidency.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that the technical committee discussed ways to further strengthen inter-sectoral collaboration.
