Ethiopia and China have celebrated 55 years of diplomatic relations with a vibrant ceremony at Addis Ababa's Friendship Square, underscoring the enduring strength of their partnership.
The event, attended by high-ranking officials and dignitaries from both countries, served as a testament to the growing ties and shared commitment to mutual prosperity.
Ambassador Mesganu Arga, State Minister of Foreign Affairs, delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing the significance of the 55th anniversary as a reflection of the deepening bilateral ties and the unwavering "All Weather Strategic Partnership" that has characterized the relationship between Ethiopia and China across all dimensions. He highlighted China's role as a key trading and investment partner for Ethiopia, urging the Ethiopian business community to actively leverage the favorable environment fostered by the government to further strengthen these economic ties.
Echoing the sentiment, Ambassador Chen Hai, the Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia, affirmed that the friendship between the two countries is timeless and continues to grow stronger over time. He reiterated China's commitment to further enhancing its relationship with Ethiopia across a broad spectrum of sectors including trade, investment, education, science, and technology, underscoring the multi-faceted nature of the strategic partnership.
The anniversary celebration was not merely a political occasion but also a cultural showcase. The event featured captivating cultural performances by groups representing both Ethiopia and China, underscoring the rich cultural exchanges that form a significant aspect of their relationship. Additionally, a public bazaar was opened, displaying a diverse range of products, with proceeds dedicated to supporting the Debora Foundation, demonstrating a commitment to both cultural and social initiatives.
Dr. Samuel Kifle, President of Addis Ababa University, and other invited guests also attended, highlighting the wide range of stakeholder interest in the strong bilateral relations that benefit both countries and their respective citizens. The 55th anniversary celebration provided a platform to honor past achievements while simultaneously charting a course for deeper collaboration and friendship in the future, reinforcing the strong bond between Ethiopia and China.
