Ethiopian painter popular locally and abroad presents her self-titled solo “BISRAT SHIBABAW” Saturday October 26th.
Hosted at Moa Anbessa Art Studio Gallery in Kazanches from 2pm to 7pm for "SALON SERIES 2017/2024, the exhibition lasts until November 3rd.
Recognized at home and abroad as a premiere painter, Bisrat has secured numerous solo and group exhibitions in Ethiopia, China, France and the prestigious University of Florida Harn Museum of Arts with work in the USA Art in Embassies Collection, according to Alliance Ethio-Française.
Bisrat a reserved and 'consummate artist' is well known and respected for her work ethos in Ethiopia and beyond.
She is a graduate of Addis Ababa University Alle School of Fine Arts and Design (AAUASFAD) with a Master's Degree from St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, Russia.
An instructor at her Alma Mater (AAUASFAD), Bisrat is impacting generations of visual artists while creating intriguing visually verbose paintings and collage in her flora filled studio, nestled in an Addis alcove.
Tesfaye Urgessa, who represented Ethiopia at Venice Biennial 2024, said in an interview with ArtReview, "Bisrat Shibabaw...laid the foundation for my painting skills and instilled in me the discipline to pursue them. They (Bisrat and Mezgebu Tesema) were my major influences ... serving as my first gateway into the world of painting."
