Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh spearheaded a major tree-planting initiative at the Bahir Dar International Stadium today, emphasising the importance of environmental sustainability for Ethiopia's beauty and economic prosperity. The event, part of the national "Green Legacy" initiative, saw the planting of numerous trees, aiming to further enhance the city’s already picturesque landscape.
"Our green footprint, as a source of beauty and economic growth for the country, is bearing fruit," declared Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen during the event. He highlighted the transformative potential of the "Green Legacy" project, not just for the environment but also for bolstering the nation's economy through sustainable practices.
The Deputy Prime Minister specifically noted that the tree planting efforts in Bahir Dar would enhance the city's natural allure, making it an even more desirable destination.
He urged all citizens to actively participate in the national "Green Legacy" initiative, emphasising collective responsibility in safeguarding and enriching Ethiopia's natural heritage.
The event drew significant participation, including high-ranking regional officials. The Head of the Region, Arega Kebede, was among the senior officials present, underscoring the regional government's commitment to the national greening agenda.
The presence of these officials demonstrates the collaborative approach towards achieving environmental sustainability across all levels of governance.
The "Green Legacy" initiative, launched in 2019, aims to combat deforestation and promote reforestation across Ethiopia. The ambitious project has garnered international recognition for its scale and impact, positioning Ethiopia as a leader in environmental conservation. The ongoing efforts in Bahir Dar contribute significantly to this broader national objective.
