Ethiopia's Foreign Affairs Minister Gedion Timothewos met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, reinforcing the deep ties between the two nations. The discussion took place on the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting of Coordinators for the Follow-up Actions of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
Minister Gedion conveyed Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's greetings to Chinese President Xi Jinping, underscoring the remarkable progress in strengthening the Ethiopia-China All-Weather Strategic Partnership. He highlighted the successful implementation of the FOCAC Ten Partnership Actions, initiatives President Xi Jinping introduced at the 2024 Beijing Summit. According to Gedion, this enhanced partnership, combined with increased coordination across South-South, BRICS, UN, and other multilateral platforms, has become a true example of effective global cooperation. He also noted that the upcoming inauguration of a tripartite center of excellence by China-Africa-UNIDO in Addis Ababa will significantly contribute to Africa's rapid modernization and further solidify Africa-China collaboration.
For his part, Minister Wang Yi emphasized the importance of translating the leaders' shared understandings into tangible results, acknowledging the solid progress already made on the FOCAC Action Plan. Wang Yi stressed that both Ethiopia and China, as vital members of the Global South and BRICS, are key to advancing common development. He reaffirmed China's view of Ethiopia as a reliable partner and friend, expressing China's commitment to consolidating this partnership for even greater development.
Both ministers agreed to speed up the full implementation of the FOCAC Action Plan. They also pledged to strengthen communication and coordination in multilateral settings, working together to uphold common interests and amplify the collective voice of Africa and the Global South on the global stage.
