Ethiopia has launched a national integrated Polio Vaccination Campaign in Jigjiga, a city in Ethiopia’s Somali region.
Children who have received the polio vaccine under the regular vaccination program would reportedly receive it again if they are under 5 years of age.
More than 14.7 million children under the age of 5 would be vaccinated in the vaccination program that will last from February 14th to 17th.
At the launch program, Somali Regional State administrator Mustafie Mohammed said that the campaign will play a major role in eradicating polio.
State Minister of Health Dr. Dereje Duguma said the integrated polio vaccination campaign will provide an opportunity for children who have not been able to receive the regular vaccine to get the vaccine.
The head of the Somali Regional State Health Bureau, Dr. Muse Ahmed, indicated that the campaign aims to vaccinate 1.4 million children under the age of 5 in the region.
