Russia Plans to Open Russian-Language Schools in Ethiopia

Russia has announced plans to open Russian-language schools in Ethiopia. Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko revealed the plan during a meeting with Ethiopian Speaker Agegnehu Teshager covering a range of issues.

In their discussion, Valentina Matvienko noted that the diplomatic relations between Russia and Ethiopia are long-standing and are among the best in Africa.

She noted that Ethiopia and Russia share many common values, are economically linked, have established strong parliamentary relations, and promote a common position that is unwavering in geopolitical circumstances.

She also said that the two sides support each other in the United Nations Security Council, noting Ethiopia is rising to prominence on the African stage under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

She further reaffirmed that Russia would continue to strengthen its support for Ethiopia in the areas of development, investment, public health and education, according to the Council's information.
