In the past six months, 74,000 domestic and foreign tourists have visited Ethiopia's national parks. The Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority stated that a total revenue of 62.2 million Birr was generated from these visitors.
The authority explained that approximately 49.8 million Birr came from consumptive wildlife use (legal hunting). A further 12.4 million Birr was generated from non-consumptive wildlife use.
Among the national parks that hosted the highest number of visitors are Nech Sar National Park, Bale Mountains National Park, Simien Mountains National Park, Abijata-Shalla Lakes National Park, and others, reported FBC.
It is known that there are 27 national parks in Ethiopia.
