Ustaz Jemal Beshir has urged Ethiopians to stand united until the completion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), calling it a symbol of their victory.
Ustaz Jemal, a staunch advocate for the GERD, emphasized Ethiopia's commitment to regional integration through the principle of shared benefit in transboundary rivers. He highlighted the GERD as a national pride and a symbol of victory, a point of focus for his media outlet, "Ye Abay Negusoch" (Nile Kings).
He asserted that Ethiopia is a donor nation to its neighbors, not a recipient of water, and a leading participant in collaborative development. He cited Ethiopia's leadership role in implementing the Nile Basin Cooperative Framework Agreement signed in Entebbe, Uganda, emphasizing its significance in establishing a fair water resource utilization system for the basin countries. He further stated that Ethiopia's commitment to renewable energy development and supply demonstrates its dedication to realizing African infrastructure integration.
The GERD, he declared, is a national symbol of victory achieved despite regional and global pressures. It's a project built with the imprint of all Ethiopians, with significant economic contributions and securing national interests. He called on all Ethiopians to continue supporting the dam financially and diplomatically until its completion.
According to ENA, he stressed the importance of resolving internal challenges through dialogue, but emphasized the need for unity and cooperation on matters of national interest. He concluded that there should be no differing stances on the GERD, a national symbol of victory.
