The agreement between Ethiopia and Somalia is a great relief for other countries in the region and for regional peace beyond the two countries, said African Affairs Researcher Mulugeta Ketema Yifru.
In an interview with EBC the researcher said that the news of the agreement will deter countries that intend to exploit the conflict for their own benefit and terrorist groups operating in the region from their goals.
He also noted the need to focus on people-to-people relations, preventing attacks by terrorist groups operating in the region and stabilizing the region.
He mentioned that it is necessary to plan activities that will demonstrate how Ethiopia’s future benefits can also benefit Somalia.
He added that the government should prove that the agreement with Somaliland is transparent and does not violate Somalia’s sovereignty.
