Ethiopia International Peace Support Training Institute (IPSTI) has inaugurated a new building, funded by the governments of Ethiopia and Japan, to expand its training capacity for peace and conflict management.
The three storey building, equipped with 16 rooms, will enable IPSTI to simultaneously offer long-term master’s programs and short-term courses.
Since its establishment in 2011, IPSTI has trained over 680 individuals, including military, police, and civilians, from both Ethiopia and other African countries.
“The Government of Japan believes that the government of the great nation of Ethiopia, and in particular IPSTI, can play a significant role in the peace and stability in northeastern Africa,” said Japanese Ambassador to Ethiopia Shibata Hironori.
According to the information obtained from the embassy of Japan, the Japanese government has contributed over $3.7 million to strengthen IPSTI’s capacity, including the recent building project.
Col. Getu Taye, IPSTI commandant, expressed gratitude to the Japanese government for its support, stating, “These projects could not have been realized without your unwavering dedication and collaboration.”
Samuel Doe, UNDP Ethiopia Resident Representative, highlighted the strong partnership between Japan and UNDP in supporting peacebuilding initiatives in Ethiopia.
