Ethiopian President Taye Atske Selassie Urges CAF to Approve Ethiopia’s Bid to Host the 2029 Africa Cup of Nations

President Taye Atske Selassie has officially called upon the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to accept and approve Ethiopia’s bid to host the 2029 Africa Cup of Nations.

During a state banquet held at the Grand Palace yesterday, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Ph.D.) emphasized that Ethiopia has the capacity to organize the 2029 tournament. The banquet was attended by senior FIFA and CAF executives.

Today, at the 46th CAF Ordinary General Assembly held at Skylight Hotel in Addis Ababa, President Taye warmly welcomed the African delegation, expressing, “Welcome to Ethiopia, your home.”

He also highlighted Ethiopia's significant contributions to African football, noting that Ethiopia was one of the founding nations of CAF in 1957. Former Ethiopa's CAF President Yidnekachew Tessema was recognized for his immense contribution to elevating African football on the global stage.

With millions of football fans, Ethiopia has a rich football legacy and has submitted its bid to host the 2029 Africa Cup of Nations, stressing that the country is prepared to stage the event. Ethiopia is currently constructing and upgrading stadiums to meet the required standards.

President Taye called on CAF to give Ethiopia the opportunity to host the tournament, which will not only promote football but also aid the country’s sporting infrastructure development.
