Ethiopia Seeks to Strengthen Bilateral Relations with Cuba through New Cooperation Opportunities – Ambassador Ayele Lire

Ethiopia is working to further consolidate its bilateral relations with Cuba by exploring new areas of cooperation, according to Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Cuba, Ayele Lire.

Ambassador Ayele presented his credentials to Salvador Antonio Valdés Mesa, the Vice President of Cuba, during a formal ceremony. He also delivered a message from Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed and President Sahle-Work Zewde to Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.

The ambassador emphasized the long-standing and fruitful relationship between Ethiopia and Cuba, expressing Ethiopia’s commitment to enhancing its historical ties with Cuba and fostering friendship through new avenues of collaboration.

Vice President Valdés Mesa recalled his visit to Ethiopia in 2023 and his discussions with Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed. He conveyed his greetings and best wishes to the Ethiopian Prime Minister.

Valdés Mesa also reaffirmed Cuba’s determination to strengthen its bilateral and multilateral partnerships with Ethiopia, particularly in the fields of investment and technology. He stressed that Cuba is committed to ensuring the implementation of cooperation agreements between the two countries.

In appreciation of Ethiopia's unwavering support in multilateral forums, Valdés Mesa expressed Cuba’s gratitude. He reiterated Cuba’s continued support to deepen diplomatic relations and ensure stronger cooperation between the two nations.

During the visit, Ambassador Ayele Lire laid a wreath at the José Martí Memorial in Havana, paying tribute to the Cuban national hero. Ethiopia and Cuba first established diplomatic relations in 1975.
