Oxford Policy Management has launched DEEP (Data and Evidence to End Extreme Poverty), a groundbreaking research consortium dedicated to eradicating extreme poverty globally through data-driven insights and innovative solutions. The initiative focuses on empowering national researchers and analysts to develop and implement small and medium-sized research projects that generate critical insights, enhancing national strategies, policies, and programs to combat poverty and vulnerability.
A key aspect of DEEP is its commitment to fostering local expertise and capacity building. By prioritizing the involvement of local researchers, DEEP ensures that the solutions and strategies developed are contextually relevant and sustainable. This approach is crucial for countries like Ethiopia, where poverty reduction requires tailored interventions that address specific local challenges and opportunities.
At the recent DEEP Ethiopia Challenge Fund event, senior local researchers underscored the importance of improving livelihoods through sustainable policy change. They highlighted that data-driven evidence is not only vital for ending extreme poverty but also for crafting effective, long-term strategies that can adapt to evolving socio-economic conditions. The event showcased various research initiatives aimed at understanding the root causes of poverty in Ethiopia and identifying actionable solutions.
