Ethiopia Underscores the Need for Intensifying Digital Techs to Cause Economic Transformation

Ethiopia underscored the need for intensifying digital technologies in all sectors of the economy to bring economic transformation in the country.

The remark was heard from the country’s Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh, during a National E-commerce Strategy validation workshop is underway in the presence of.

 

Driven by the fact that the country’s digital economy depicts huge potential in unlocking unprecedented growth, the Ethiopian government has been endeavoring to ensure favorable conditions for ensuring digitization, Temesgen said, and that’s why the Ethiopia commenced digital revolution to reshape its economy.

To avail jobs, earn more foreign currency as well as encourage startups, Temesgen stated, much has been done through prioritizing the development of the ICT sector.

The goal of this National E-commerce Strategy is to execute national projects, sustainable economic growth and enhance competitiveness, he mentioned.

While the National E-commerce Strategy can help bring about an altered trade system, formulating a legal framework that breaks impediments to the sector is vital to ensure safety and security of e-commerce.

The National E-commerce Strategy was designed benchmarking national and international trends, Minister of Trade and Regional Integration, Gebremeskel Chala said.

The minister also indicated that the strategy is part of Ethiopia's digital transformation and it is expected to modernize local markets and helps Ethiopia to trade all over the world through digital platforms.
