Residents of Somali Regional state vowed to strengthen their support for GERD.

Residents of Somali Regional State have expressed their unwavering commitment to the project's completion, highlighting its potential to improve lives of millions across the Nation.

Speaking to EBC, residents of Jigjiga city, the capital of the region and Togochale emphasized the dam's role in unlocking economic opportunities.

They have expressed keenness to further strengthen support for the completion of the dam mentioning once the dam gets completed, the Nation will secure reliable electricity which is bedrock for development, powering industries, businesses, and other vital social services.

"The dam is a beacon of hope for a brighter future," said Mehamed Nasir resident of Togochale reminding he has bought bond several times and vowed to support GERD until it gets completed.

Another resident of Jigjiga city Yasin Muhe on his part said "For too long, our people have grappled with poverty and limited access to electricity. GERD has the power to change that." He further added that, "I support the GERD not for my own benefit but for my grand sons and daughters." He calls up on all citizens across the nation to resume support for the flagship project.

Ibsa Muhammad student and resident of Jigjiga city reiterated that he has been supporting the GERD by sharing from the slice of his pocket and vowed to support until the Nation has realized its completion.

In a similar development, Abdulakadir Reshid, Somali region government communication bureau head said the government of the region is working to support the GERD by mobilizing citizens living in the region and expressed readiness to resume media campaign.

The Somali Regional State, with its entrepreneurial spirit and strategic location, is poised to reap significant benefits from the GERD. The dam's electricity generation capacity will not only illuminate homes but also fuel industrial growth corridors, creating jobs and attracting investment.

It's to be recalled that the backbreaking work continues at the dam site, a testament to the collective will of a nation determined to secure a brighter future. With unwavering support from its citizens, like those in the Somali region, the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is set to become a symbol of unity, progress, and a brighter tomorrow for Ethiopia.
