The National ID Program of Ethiopia has announced that over 15 million citizens have so far registered for the Fayda ID service.
Henok Tilahun, Director of Registration for the National ID Program, told F.M. Addis 97.1 that they are working to make the national digital ID accessible to 20 to 23 million residents by the end of this year.
Henok stated that the service is currently being provided using 5,000 registration devices.
It has been noted that digital identification plays a crucial role in benefiting society economically, preventing crime, and facilitating efficient services.
Furthermore, there are plans to enable 90 million citizens to use the digital ID within the next two years.
