New Tigray Leader Lieutenant General Tadesse Worede Urges Unity, Pledges Reforms
Tigray Region Interim Administration President Lieutenant General Tadesse Worede has urged members of the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) to bridge their political differences, stating, "We must narrow the political rift and ensure the future of the people of Tigray."
Lieutenant General Tadesse, appointed just days ago to replace Getachew Reda, received a warm welcome from the TPLF central committee upon assuming his role.
Officially taking office, the new president stated his commitment to resolving issues that widen political differences, both among split TPLF factions and between the TPLF and the interim administration itself. "There is no other option but to work together to restore the good image of Tigray and its people," he affirmed.
The president added that he plans to address existing problems by holding a public conference soon and will seek the support of all political parties to realize his objectives.
President Tadesse also announced plans to reorganize his cabinet and has ordered the preparation of a three-month strategic plan. He stated that his administration's main focus will be the full implementation of the Pretoria Peace Agreement, emphasizing maintaining public peace and security, revitalizing the regional economy, and adjusting the administrative structure.
Stressing that Tigray's future depends on narrowing the political divide, Lieutenant General Tadesse urged unity: "We must work together by moving away from the idea of winners and losers and supporting each other."
Following these statements, the president officially received representatives of the TPLF faction led by Debretsion Gebremichael (PhD) at his office on Thursday evening.
Dr. Debretsion Gebremichael stated his commitment, saying, "I will contribute to the interim administration, maintaining its independence and carrying out its work." The TPLF chairman also expressed his best wishes to President Tadesse and affirmed that the TPLF would support the interim administration's efforts to fulfill its mission.
