Mayor Adanech Abiebie announced on her social media page that she discussed ways to expedite the construction of the Gerbi Drinking Water Dam project with the Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Chen Hai and representatives from the CGCOC Group.
The project, initially planned for construction in 2008 with funding from the Exim Bank, has been delayed due to the non-release of the loan. As a result, the city administration has decided to fund the construction itself.
Mayor Adanech stated that an agreement has been reached with the Chinese Embassy and CGCOC Group to proceed with construction using the city's budget to address the city's water supply shortage. She expressed confidence that the completion of the Gerbi Drinking Water Dam project will significantly improve the city's water supply and alleviate the existing water shortage, complementing the city's ongoing efforts to increase water provision with substantial budget allocation.
