Ethiopia, EU Strengthen Ties

Ethiopia is set to enhance its strategic partnership with the European Union, as highlighted in recent discussions led by Dr. Gedion Timothewos, the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Engaging with a delegation of ambassadors, including Ambassador Delphine Pronk, who chairs the EU Political and Security Committee, Dr. Gedion underscored the deep-rooted and resilient ties that exist between Ethiopia and the EU.

He reaffirmed Ethiopia's dedication to further strengthening these comprehensive connections, particularly in light of the ongoing economic reforms that present new opportunities for collaboration.

During the meeting, Dr. Gedion provided insights into Ethiopia's national dialogue, transitional justice efforts, and the implementation of the Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) program. He urged the EU to consider lifting visa restrictions on Ethiopian citizens and emphasized the importance of joint efforts in combating terrorism and addressing migration issues.

Ambassador Pronk echoed these sentiments, expressing the EU's commitment to deepening its partnership with Ethiopia, recognizing that the security challenges faced by Africa are also significant for Europe, and highlighting the shared goal of fostering peace and stability across the continent.
