Nigeria is mourning the loss of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in London on Sunday at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness. The news was confirmed by the presidential press office.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed his deep condolences to Buhari's wife and has dispatched his vice president to the UK to accompany the former leader's body back to Nigeria. Tinubu honored Buhari's legacy, hailing him as "a patriot, a soldier, a statesman" who demonstrated a "deep commitment to the unity and progress" of his nation.
"He stood firm through the most turbulent times, leading with quiet strength, profound integrity, and an unshakable belief in Nigeria’s potential," Tinubu stated. "He championed discipline in public service, confronted corruption head-on, and placed the country above personal interest at every turn."
