Tamirat Tola brings silver for Ethiopia in men’s marathon
(EBC; August 6, 2017) - Tamirat Tola won silver for Ethiopia in men's marathon at the London IAAF World Championships on Sunday.
Tamirat, the Rio 10,000m bronze medallist and fastest in the field, required medical treatment after struggling home in 2:09:49, just two seconds ahead of Tanzania's Alphonce Simbu, who clocked 2:09:41.
Kenya's Geoffrey Kipkorir Kirui timed two hours 8 minutes and 27 seconds to first race past the finish line on London's historic site Tower Bridge and claim the title.
It is to be recalled that Ethiopia's Almaz Ayana won the 10,000 metres title on Saturday wherein also her compatriot, Tirunesh Dibaba, claimed silver.
