Panel discussion on “Ethiopia’s current foreign relation endeavors” held
(EBC; September 7, 2017) - On the sidelines of the Annual Conference of Ethiopian Ambassadors, Consul Generals and Director Generals, a panel discussion titled "Ethiopia's current foreign relation endeavors" was held at the African Union Hall of Hawassa University on Wednesday.
Jointly organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Hawasssa University, the discussion prime focused on the contemporary socio-economic and political issues across the region and on a Global scale in light of the Foreign Affairs and National Security Policies and Strategies of Ethiopia.
The President of Hawassa University, Ayano Bareso, in his opening speech noted that the country's diplomacy has put Ethiopia on a diplomatic pedestal on key Global issues.
Among the many activities of the Ministry, added the President, the "institutional twinning programs" has immensely benefited Hawassa University in reinforcing its strategic relations with international institutes.
He said, the university looks forward to working with the Ministry by further strengthening the collaborative efforts that can yield enhanced international cooperation and earnest multicultural dialogue, which he said, were critical to advancing innovations for greater societal impact.
Panelists including Ambassador MahAmoud DIrir, Ambassador Negash Kibret and Ambassador Sulieman Dedefo made presentations on current issues of Ethiopia's foreign relations with neighboring countries, the Middle East and beyond.
Ethiopia's role on issues of climate change, peace keeping and migration on international venues, contemporary challenges and opportunities posed by fast changing political realities on multilateral foras, etc were also topics raised by Panelists.
The Panelists as well as senior diplomats also clarified doubts and questions forwarded from participants.
