Ethiopia’s construction boom contributes to cement industry growth
(EBC; March 8, 2017)- The booming construction in Ethiopia has led to the growth of cement industry in the country.
The statement has come on Ethio-China Cement Forum happening in Addis Ababa.
Ethiopian cement industry has been growing steadily over the last few years with the participation of the private investors.
The booming construction in the country has been the main driver for the growth, as indicated on the forum.
Now the industry in Ethiopia is capable of producing 12 to 13 million tons of cement per annum.
Haile Assegide, Chairman, Ethiopian Cement Association said the cement industry in Ethiopia is still facing challenges related to lack of skilled man power and the required technology.
To address problems in the industry, Ethiopian and China Cement Association is working with different government institutions, as indicated on the forum.
The advancing cooperation between Ethiopia and China is creating enabling environment for the growing of many business ventures, according to Chinese Cement Association group.
The forum is also expected to come up with crucial input for Ethiopia's cement technology roadmap, which mainly targeting to ensure quality and implement advanced production mechanisms.
It was also mentioned that Chinese construction materials companies will work with Ethiopian higher learning institutions in that regard.
