Education comes to the Limelight as Pre-AU Youth Summit Kicks off

By Hikma Temam

Stakeholders urged the youth of the African continent to contribute their fair share towards expanding the education sector.

Speaking here today at opening of the Pre-AU youth Simulation summit organized by the African Union in collaboration with its partners, the stakes underlined that the youth should strive towards an educational system that unlocks vital skills and critical thinking still hidden away as potentials.

Organized under the theme ‘the Axis of development in 21st century: youth, Agenda 2030, and the Africa we want’: transforming education in Africa, the event is expected to give an opportunity to increase the participation of the youth in the UN sustainable development, African union agenda 2063, and the African union commission initiative.

Speaking on the occasion, Chido Cleopatra Mpemba, Special Envoy for the Youth at the AUC, recalled that the AU youth charter speaks directly to the summit’s aim, adding youth empowerment and inclusivity is imperative to achieve SDGs and AU aspirations.

This year’s theme resonates with the focus area of the upcoming AU 37th Heads of States & Government’s Summit scheduled to be held between February 14th and 18th. Leaders of the continent will look into the educational sector, particularly focusing on building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive lifelong quality, and relevant learning in Africa.

Today’s Pre-AU youth summit centers on how to improve living conditions of the youth in Ethiopia, Africa and across the world.

The Pre-AU Youth Simulation conference will wrap up on February 08, 2024.//
