President Sahle-Work: AU Should Diligently Work for Africa to Become Food Self-Sufficient

The African Union should diligently work for the continent to become food self-sufficient, said Ethiopian President, Sahle-Work Zewde.

The President said this during a sideline panel discussion to the 37th African Union Summit which is being held at Adwa Victory Memorial.

Opening the panel discussion, President Sahle-Work stated that climate change is becoming a serious challenge for the African continent.

She explained that the problem of climate change is resulting in severely affecting Africa's efforts to become self-sufficient in food.

Mentioning that the African Union has a big homework to undertake, President Sahle-Work underlined that “this is the right time for Africans to consult together because the problem is serious.”

She also indicated that the Green Legacy Initiative, which Ethiopia started in 2019 to combat climate change and the National Wheat Development Program to fulfil the food self-sufficiency vision can be a model for Africa.
